Francis Fortier, Artistic Director

Dear Friend of Music:

Acclaimed by Phi Beta Baton as "…one of the nation's proving grounds for gifted young artists", the Bar Harbor Music Festival has gained national recognition for its important work. At the threshold of its 50th Anniversary in 2016, it remains one of the few music festivals in the United States whose guiding mission is to provide essential performance opportunities for outstanding up-and-coming talent.

During the past 48 years, the Festival has advanced the careers of over 1,800 aspiring instrumentalists, singers, and composers, presenting a glorious summer of music ranging from opera to jazz. We have provided a vital public cultural service for the community, as well as having a positive impact on the region's economy through our "Arts and Tourism" marketing initiatives.

The 49th Annual Bar Harbor Music Festival was just designated as one of the American Bus Association's Top 100 Events in North America for the year 2015. This honor has given the Festival a significant national promotional boost, as well as strengthening Bar Harbor's economy, as one overnight visit by a Motor Coach group attending a Festival concert can direct up to $25,000 to the business community.

The 2015 49th Season, June 28-July 26, promises the unique variety and high quality for which the Festival has become known and loved. Among the highlights will be Rossini's comic opera masterpiece LA CENERENTOLA on July 10 in the newly renovated Criterion Theatre. WGBH Classical New England in Boston recently selected us as "Maine's Premier Music Festival."

At best, ticket receipts will cover only 20% of our total costs. Contributions are the only way to make up the income gap.

At this point, we have raised $90,000 towards our 2015 $325,000 funding goal, including a $5,000 grant from the Hattie A. & Fred C. Lynam Trust. Yet, we still have a long way to go.

Please let your commitment to music be heard by making a tax deductible contribution to our 49thh Annual Drive to help us reach our goal.

With every good wish and always thanks.

Sincerely,
Francis Fortier, Artistic Director
