BAR HARBOR MUSIC FESTIVAL YOUNG AUDIENCE CONCERTS
The Young Audience Concerts were initiated in 2014 as part of the Bar Harbor Music Festival's 48th Season of opera,
solo recitals, chamber music, New Composers, brass quintet, orchestra, jazz, pops, and tea concerts, with the goal to
make this great music-making accessible to children. In these daytime events, Bar Harbor Music Festival musicians
interact with their young audiences in a relaxed and informal setting, entertaining and educating them about classical music.

Variety is the key to the Bar Harbor Music Festival, and on more
than just the musical front. Concertgoers can take in everything from string orchestra concerts and nights of jazz or brass to New
Composers concerts and even Opera! Our venues are as varied as the musical menu: the Bar Harbor Congregational Church, known for
its excellent acoustics; The Maine Sea Coast Mission, the former Colket family mansion overlooking Frenchman Bay; Blackwoods
Campground Amphitheatre in spectacular Acadia National Park; the amazing art-deco Criterion Theater (a jewel in the heart of downtown),
and the elegant Bar Harbor Club. To quote music critic, Hetty Preble Archer, "A trip to the Bar Harbor Music Festival is never disappointing."

The Bar Harbor Music Festival
"...one of New England's great music festivals"
-Nan Lincoln, The Bar Harbor Times
Designated by the American Bus Association as one of the Top 100 Events in North America in 2015
Acclaimed by Phi Beta Baton as "...one of the nation's proving grounds for gifted young artists", the Bar Harbor Music
Festival, founded by violinist Francis Fortier in 1967, has gained national recognition for its unique work. It remains one
of the few music festivals in the United States whose guiding mission is to provide essential performance opportunities for outstanding up-and-coming talent.
The Festival has advanced the careers of over 2,000
aspiring instrumentalists, singers, and composers, presenting a glorious summer of music encompassing recitals, chamber music, "Pops",
"New Composers", opera, jazz, and string orchestra concerts, as well as a forum, lecture-demonstrations, and a young audience series. In so doing, it has provided a vital public
cultural service for the community, its visitors, and the State of Maine.
The Festival's outreach programs, such as the admission-free outdoor concerts in Acadia National
Park and performances at Birch Bay Retirement Community, have won new audiences for classical music and fostered music education.
The 2017 51st Season will run from July2-July 30. Donizetti's "Don Pasquale" is scheduled for Friday, July 21 at Bar
Harbor's historic Criterion Theatre.
Its annual summer festival in Bar Harbor, Maine, coupled with its Touring Program, has reached audiences totaling over
one million. This clearly is an indication of the Festival's popularity as music lovers gravitate to this musical gem in the spectacular setting of Bar Harbor.
WGBH Classical New England in Boston recently selected the Bar Harbor Music Festival as "Maine's Premier Music Festival".
