Dear Friend of Music:

Acclaimed by Phi Beta Baton as "…one of the nation's proving grounds for gifted young artists", the Bar Harbor Music Festival has gained national recognition for its unique work. It has become a "beacon of hope for young artists", as it remains one of the few music festivals in the United States whose guiding mission is to provide essential performance opportunities for outstanding up-and-coming talent.

During the past 45 years, the Bar Harbor Music Festival has advanced the careers of over 2,000 aspiring instrumentalists, singers, and composers, presenting a glorious summer of music encompassing recitals, chamber music, "Pops", "New Composers", opera, jazz, and string orchestra concerts. In so doing, we have provided a vital public cultural service for Bar Harbor, Mount Desert Island, and the State of Maine. We have also had a positive impact on the region's economy through our "Arts and Tourism" marketing initiatives.

We are celebrating our 46th Season in 2012 with 12 exciting performances July 1 – July 29. Among the highlights will be the greatest love story ever told in Charles Gounod's opera masterpiece, "Romeo and Juliette" on July 13 and the Wolverine Jazz Band returning by popular demand on July 22. The Festival is unrivaled in the extraordinary variety we offer, satisfying every musical taste from opera to jazz.

In past years, we have enclosed an attractive flyer. As part of our overall effort to cut costs in this volatile economy, you will find a simple Calendar of Events. We are directing as much funding as possible towards the music, rather than expensive promotional materials. We believe you will appreciate this.

At best, ticket receipts will cover only 20% of our total costs. Contributions are the only way to make up the income gap. We are encouraged by the initial show of support which has yielded $76,000 towards our 2012 Funding Goal of $275,000.

We have included an opportunity to name the Bar Harbor Music Festival as a beneficiary in your estate or other planned gift in our Contribution Response Envelope. Most importantly, you will be making an invaluable contribution to securing the Festival's future.

Please let your commitment to music be heard by making a tax deductible contribution to our 46th Annual Drive.

With every good wish and always thanks.
